Keep Calm and Quarantine
Originally the idea of quarantine was confined to a two week perimeter. “14 days of isolation + snacks?! WE GOT THIS.”
Especially since Pesach was around the corner, our plates were full as is. In theory this was like a mandatory sick leave at one of the busiest/things to do at home times of the year.
NOT SO BAD.
You don't need me to give a synopsis of the current events; we all read the WSJ (one perk of quarantine is I do have time now to read the WSJ)
I was going to rock this. Brush up on skills, make time for pushed off priorities, get into a steady fitness routine, learn a new language, and get into the piano. Oh, and TikTok impersonations can keep a girl very occupied, as a spectator and as a spectacle :)
As the days turned into a blur and as weeks turned into, "there are years that feel like days, and there are days that feel like years" not to get morbid, to #bereal, I was coming to a Corona standstill.
My projects weren't coming to fruition. Even more so, my pseudo pre quarantine skills were falling to the wayside. I was super frustrated when I was tasked to edit a video (pro bono in the most freelance way), and the program I favor, Adobe Premiere Pro, wasn't cooperating. Or maybe I forget how to use it? The keyboard shortcuts I used to splice, crop, and mask videos with such seamless fluidity now seemed foreign. This was when I realized it's time for the #pandemicpivot.
I'm late in the game in terms of organizing a regimen for myself. It took a while to #getmyactogether, but this is what I'm doing to maintain equilibrium and promote productivity. Also, Sun Days help. I feel like vitamin D bolsters positive #justdoit inertia.
Make your bed, asap. If you want, there's a video going around on WhatsApp that inspires.
Don't check your phone first thing in the AM. This will distract you/give you anxiety well before you've had coffee to stomach said emergency pings.
Make spiritual growth a priority; this is why those 60-second Meaningful Minute clips are attainable—bite-sized doses of positive message and learning.
So much of these "tips" are things we know to put into practice. I think the biggest TIP would be not to be too hard on oneself. Don't compare to the productive Instagrammers who are baking banana bread and sourdough. Don't beat yourself up if the "quarantine 15" actually comes to fruition. Take care. Of yourself, your family, protect your inner world. Yes, your mind, and she's mental ;). Self-talk and self-care should be the defining terms of 2020. Don't let Corona let you get down.
