Home is Here
This post is long overdue.
Sweet things are synonymous with the feeling of home, safe, confident, content, warm — Dalet Amos of cozy.
When I went to Rome, in pursuit of Italian Gelato, I was anticipating #mindblown sweetness coupled with an airy texture of the cream. They don't have anything on Klein's Tiramisu Ice Cream…
In Paris, and I have nothing against Damyel- I was expecting velvet cream smushed between crisp layers of pillowy macrons. To quote one of my favorite lines," I've had better."
It's not about the food; food is a euphemism for feels.
I tell myself I want certain things for fear of always looking over my shoulder and finding that pursuit "elsewhere."
That game at carnivals? Where you hit as hard as you can, and the pinger levels up to a measly midpoint? But you win a stuffed animal either way…you get my point.
Home=Content. Confident. Cozy.
Home is something we create within ourselves.
When one of my friends moved from her big house on the tree-lined block to a small apartment overlooking the avenue, the most significant discrepancy I noticed was that there was none. Her mother made the small living space, quant and posh. The smaller kitchen only meant for more intimate convos over juicing some veggies.
There are certain things a person can do that contributes to the three C's of home.
The pursuit of knowledge; higher education and discovering that aha moment, acts of kindness; giving of yourself in ways that are between you and the other party, reading, and the search for something meaningful to you.
Have class and integrity. These don't cost much, but they don't come cheap either, there's usually a steep sacrifice in terms of a good rebuttal retort or a snappy comeback. Biting your tongue hurts in more ways than one.
Be your best self, exercise, hustle, take the initiative, don't have regrets, think before you speak, travel, network, keep in touch, build; relationships and social circles, carve out time for yourself to "be." Buy the dress, the shoes, the perfume, the bag. Treat others to treats, bring coffee just because, follow up, remember to ask how the appointment went…”sisters by chance, friends by choice”, the “friends who are the family we choose for ourselves.”
Everything elusive seems sweeter. Until it's yours, you can only imagine what it would feel like, …but there's so much sweetness we can earn on our own accord.
Someone who struggles to lose weight and three months later has what to show, a college graduate, an artist, composer, a good friend who understands #thestruggleisreal because they gave of their own to be on the journey alongside you.
Home is Here.
and because sometimes tangible is the best way to get you into a state of cozy…Here are some #cozyvibes
